James Hoover: 6.0kg

Coming in at the top of the list for the lightest hoover in the Henry range is the compact and dependable James. The James hoover only weighs 6kg which is noticeably less than the original Henry’s 7.5kg and a whopping 8.6kg lighter than its older brother George who weighs 14.68kg.

What you get with James is a compact and convenient little nipper who can do all the things (bar wet cleaning) its other siblings in the range can but without the additional weight and size.

We have a James hoover at home and a classic Henry which we use for our cleaning business; you do certainly notice the difference in weight between the two. The James vacuum cleaner is far easier to move around with especially on the stairs.

But just because it is lighter doesn’t mean it doesn’t carry a big load as James has an 8-litre dust bin capacity a full 2 litres more than Henry. This is a great combination – lightweight design but bigger capacity than some of the others in the Henry range.

James was designed specifically to make things easier on users especially those who need to lug around the house or perhaps from one job to the next as a cleaner or builder. Staying true to Henry’s origin, James has been made to a professional standard meaning it’s comfortable in both home and commercial/trade settings.

James has the same high-performance motor as well as toolkit, extra long cable and high-efficiency cable as the original Henry but comes in much lighter and with a larger capacity. There’s a lot to like here and James is a fitting presence as the lightest Henry hoover.

  • Capacity – 8L
  • Size – 340 x 365 x 360mm
  • Motor – 620W

Henry Cordless – 6.4kg

Next, up on the list of lightest Henry hoovers is the Henry Cordless vacuum cleaner coming in at 6.4kg which is fractionally heavier than the lightest James hoover. This has several of the same benefits you get with the original Henry but with the added convenience of no cords.

The main drawback with the Henry Cordless as with any other cordless when compared to the corded Henry is the limited run time. You get 30 minutes of runtime on the battery which takes 3.5 hours to fully charge.

However, if you don’t mind recharging the battery every time you finish hoovering (assuming you don’t also need to vacuum for longer) then the Henry Cordless is a good lighter option than the original Henry.

  • Capacity – 6L
  • Size – 320 x 340 x 320mm

Henry (The Original) – 7.5kg

The original Henry hoover is the most popular of the range and compares relatively well in terms of weight at 7.5kg. This is a fairly typical weight level for cylinder vacuum cleaners with several Miele models for example weighing in at around 7.4 – 8.4kg.

In our own experience, we’ve found that Henry’s 7.5kg is quite fine so long as you do not need to move across several flights of stairs in your home. Whilst it is not the heaviest vacuum cleaner out there or even within the Henry range, it can still present a challenge with the bag full if you are not accustomed to lifting.

Though the original Henry is the 3rd lightest within the Henry range, given the many benefits you get it’s well worth it. Assuming like most people you live in a house with one set of stairs or none at all then the weight of the Henry HVR160 shouldn’t present any issues. Even if you are in a house with more flights of stairs, given the length of the cord you are unlikely to have to move it around more than a few times.

  • Capacity – 6Litre
  • Size – 320 x 340 x 345mm

Hetty – 7.5kg

Weighing in at the exact same level as Henry, Hetty‘s 7.5kg puts it joint 3rd on the list of lightest Henry hoovers.

There have been more than 15 million Henry and Hetty vacuum cleaners produced.

Hetty has the exact same features as Henry but just a different name and colour as well as pretty eyelashes. Otherwise they share the same 620W motor, six litre dust bin capacity and 10m power cord as well as the same set of tools.

One thing that does differ between them though is that Hetty typically tends to be more expensive than Henry.

  • Capacity – 6L
  • Size – 320 x 340 x 345mm

Henry Allergy – 7.5kg

Staying at the 7.5kg weight class is another Henry copy but with a significant twist. The Henry Allergy is specifically designed to combact allergens present in the home with an advanced HEPA filtration system.

The 3 stage HEPA filtration system is designed to help provide relief from pet allergies and reduce exposure to potentially harmful allergens present in the home.

Henry Allergy comes with a British Allergy Foundation Seal of Approval with the manufacturer noting that ‘Henry Allergy is scientifically proven to reduce exposure to dust and pet-related allergens’.

Thus if you are an allergy sufferer or someone in your home is, then the Henry Allergy represents a great way to get a vacuum at the same weight as the original Henry but with specific benefits around allergen control.

The Henry Allergy offers the same 6 litre capacity as the Henry HVR160 and is also the exact same size.

  • Capacity – 6L
  • Size – 320 x 340 x 345mm

Henry Eco – 7.7kg

The Henry Eco weighs 7.7kg, just 0.2kg heavier than the Henry HVR160 but some way off the lighest of the bunch James at 6.0kg.

The Henry Eco is designed with a focus to reduce energy consumption and benefit the environment. It uses 30% less energy than the standard Henry model. This is achieved through the use of a 420W motor rather than the standard 620W used across most of the other Henry range.

In addition, the Henry Eco’s packaging is made from 80% recycled materials.

Though slightly heavier than the original Henry, the Eco still provides 6 litres of dust bin capacity and a 10 metre cable for good reach around your cleaning area.

Another point of distinction from the original Henry, is the EcoBrush which is designed to pick-up more stubborn dirt, dust as well as pet hairs from the carpet and stairs.

  • Capacity – 6L
  • Size – 320 x 340 x 345mm

Henry Xtra – 8.0Kg

If you like everything that the original Henry and you want that little bit…extra, then the Henry Xtra is where you go. Packed full of all the same features but with some notable added benefits such as a its specialist AiroBrush designed to actively lift dust, dirt and hair from carpet and a hard floor tool.

With the extra features you also get a little bit of extra weight compared to the original Henry with the Xtra weighing 8kg (vs Henry original’s 7.5kg).

In exchange for the added half a kilo over and above the original Henry, you do also get an additional 3 litres of storage capacity (9litres).

At 8kg plus a full bag, the Henry Xtra is not to be taken lightly and is best suited for those who need the extra capacity and don’t mind the slightly heavier overall weight.

  • Capacity – 9L
  • Size – 340 x 360 x 370mm

Henry Pet – 8.0kg

The Henry Pet is another variation of the Henry that comes in at 8kg. The big difference with the Henry Pet as you might have guessed is that it comes with features specifically geared towards handling pet mess.

It has a EcoBrush fitting which relies on the Henry Pet’s powerful airflow to pick up pet hairs, particularly on carpets and stairs. This can also be handy on sofas and cars.

As well as handling pet hairs and dander, the Henry Pet is also equipped with a charcoal activated MicroFresh filter which is designed to reduce those stale and lingering pet odours around the home.

Alongside the 8kg in weight you get an impressive 9 litres of cleaning capacity, a full 3 litres more than the original Henry.

  • Capacity – 9L
  • Size – 340 x 360 x 370mm

Harry – 8.0kg

The Harry vacuum cleaner is very similar to the Henry Pet. In fact, it’s difficult to find the distinct differences between the two. The Harry vacuum cleaner is another 8kg unit within the Henry range and also benefits from 9 litres of cleaning capacity which is impressive.

It’s designed with pets in mind and comes with an EcoBrush which uses the air flow from the motor to act as a turbo brush and pick up stubborn pet hairs as it goes.

The Harry hoover also comes with a characoal-activated MicroFresh filter which works to reduce the presence of persistent pet odours around the home.

  • Capacity – 9L
  • Size – 340 x 360 x 370mm

Charles – 9.0kg

The aptly named Charles vacuum cleaner takes us to a new level in weight class within the Henry range weighing in at a whopping 9kg.

Charles also has a very distinct feature within the Henry range as it can operate as either a dry vacuum or wet vacuum meaning it’s perfect for tougher assignments like DIY.

The Charles hoover can be switched between wet and dry mode quite easily and quickly.

Charles’ 9kg weight is allied with an incredible 15 litres of cleaning capacity for dry vacuuming and 9 litres for wet vacuuming, giving it a distinct advantage in terms of capacity over and above it’s siblings within the Henry range.

Another significant advantage the Charles hoover has over many of its peers is it’s 1060w motor, 70% more powerful than the original Henry and the other lighter models we’ve looked so far on the list.

With such a powerful motor, cleaning is much quicker and it also means Charles is well suited to more difficult cleaning assignments.

If we were in the construction business, we could see the appeal of having Charles around for those messy post-build clean up jobs.

  • Capacity – 9L
  • Size – 360 x 370 x 510mm

Henry XL Plus – 10.0kg

The Henry XL Plus weighs in at 10kg, 25% heavier than the original Henry but with nearly 3 times the cleaning capacity at, 15 litres.

In addition, the Henry XL Plus also has a noticeably longer cable than the original Henry at most others at 12.5m (compared to 10m) meaning you can cleaner in a much bigger range without having to switch plugs, saving you time.

Though it weighs much more than the original Henry, the Henry XL Plus still uses the same 620w motor.

The Henry XL Plus comes with a hard floor cleaning tool as well as a powerful AiroBrush 140 to help with more stubborn dirt.

Henry XL Plus also comes with a Flexi Crevice Tool which bends around and under hard to reach places (e.g. in between car seats) allowing you to clean more thoroughly.

At 10kg the Henry XL Plus weighs a lot but is worth considering if the features are appealing to you and you are confident you can deal with the 10kg weight you take into account the weight of the dirt and dust as you collect it.

  • Capacity – 15L
  • Size – 510 x 360 x 370mm

George – 14.68kg

The George vacuum cleaner is in a weight class all on its own at a whopping 14.68kg. It weighs almost twice as much as the original Henry and when you study its features you can understand why.

The George is marketed as the ‘ultimate ‘all-in-one” family vacuum cleaner. Whether you want to shampoo the carpet, clean up a spill, unblock the sink, liven up your furniture or just clean up a few crumbs, the George vacuum cleaner has you covered.

Beofre you get too excited you should note that it’s so light as it’s a cordless hand-held (or stick) vacuum cleaner which are designed to be very light but also have very limited capacity (1 L) compared to their corded peers (6L upwards).

The Henry Quick is a relatively new venture for the Henry hoover family and it will be interesting to see how their future models develop.
