Miele pride themselves on having a firm commitment for making high-quality products that last through stringent testing.

All Miele vacuum cleaners come with a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Founded in 1890 by engineer Carl Miele and entrepreneur Reinhard Zinkann, Miele did not start out making vacuum cleaners straight away but instead began life as company focused on the production of cream separators in Herzebrock, Germany.

Miele have been making vacuum cleaners as far back as 1931 and in 2015 produced their 50 millionth machine giving you an idea of just how dedicated they are to the category.

Miele still makes a significant proportion of its vacuum cleaners in its Bielefeld production facility in Germany, the second oldest in the company’s history having started up in 2016.

The company also coordinates the production of vacuum cleaners made outside of Germany including Dongguan, China and UnUničov, Czech Republic.

If you’re looking specifically for German made Miele vacuum cleaners then keep in mind that some of its more lower priced models are made at its Dongguan factory in China including:

  • Swing H1
  • Compact C1
  • Compact C2
  • Complete C2

It’s worth noting that all motors used in Miele vacuum cleaners including those assembled in the China, come from its Euskirchen plant in Germany.

More recently Miele also ventured into producing robot vacuum cleaners with its Scout RX range.

Did You Know

Even with over 125 years in operation, Vorwek is likely to be a name you have never heard of and may not necessarily associate with vacuum cleaners. Despite that they have solid reputation as one of the best German made vacuum cleaner brands out there.

Founded in Wuppertal, Germany 1883 by brother Carl and Adolf Vorwerk, the company now has an international footprint with subsidiaries in 12 countries across Europe and Asia.

You have likely not heard of Vorwek despite their global presence and long history as they have traditionally used a direct-to-consumer sales model relying on demonstrations in people’s homes. They have continued to work this way since 1930 as they believe it provides consumers a real opportunity to test out their vacuum cleaner before they make a purchase.

Consumer confidence is important as you’ll also notice that Vorwerk products are quite expensive in comparison to most vacuum cleaners.

Their products can now also be found online though don’t expect to find them at retailers such as Amazon or Currys.

Today Vorwerk make a range of different vacuum cleaner types including upright, handhelds and cordless. The Vorwerk Kobold range also includes a window cleaner as well as mop.

In addition, the Vorwerk range also includes a robot vacuum. Further to this Vorwek acquired Neato Robotics in 2017, one of the most well-known robot vacuum cleaner brands on the market. Neato for example. are behind the popular D-shaped range of robot vacuum cleaners which are particularly adept at cleaning corners.

Vowerk focuses its production in three manufacturing locations in Wuppertal, Germany; Floyes France and Shanghai, China. It’s unclear though which units are made in which locations.

Vowerk offer a 5 year warranty with their vacuum cleaners though battery-powered models come with a 2 year guarantee.

Did You KnowKarcher manufactured a robotic vacuum cleaner (the RC 3000) as early as 2003

Karcher may be a brand you recognise but more so for their high pressure cleaning equipment. What you may not realise is that they also make vacum cleaners including cordless, uprights and cylinder models. Karcher vacuum cleaners are aimed at both domestic and commercial users.

Founded in 1935 by Alfred Karcher, the company made its foray into cleaning technology in the 1950’s developing Europe’s first hot-water high pressure cleaner.

Today Karcher continue to make high pressure cleaning systems as well as a range of other cleaning products including window vacuums, scrubber driers and street sweepers.

Though Karcher has manufacturing facilities in Germany for a range of its equipment, from what we can tell at the time of writing they make at least some of their vacuum cleaners in China such as the Karcher VC 4 cordless vacuum cleaner.

German Made Vacuum Cleaner Brands – Conclusion

As we’ve seen there’s good selection of German made vacuum cleaner brands with a long history and reputations for high quality. However, when looking for vacuum cleaners specifically made in Germany you have to keep in mind that many companies have global footprints and so it is possible that their vacuum cleaners could be made outside of Germany.

If you only want to consider companies that exclusively make their vacuum cleaners in Germany then SEBO is your best bet. Beyond that Miele, Vorwerk and Bosch all appear to have vacuum cleaners that are manufactured in Germany as well as units from elsewhere such as China.

It’s worth remembering though that even when these German vacuum cleaner brands manufacture their machines elsewhere, you still get the benefit of their engineering design as well as commitment to quality regardless of location.
